|
This study aimed to analyze the elderly`s experiences living in group home in rural area, to see the possibility as a communal caring center for elderly living alone. Observational study was conducted for two group homes in Kyungsangnam-Do and Kangwon-Do. Ten elderly from two regions were selected for in-depth interviews. The data were analyzed using the phenomenological methodology. The findings were classified into four subjects：creating Interdependent relationship, enjoying logistic convenience, adjusting daily life, expanding community membership. The elderly were enjoying emotional and psychological comfort through interdependent relationship, saving living expenses in a better living environment, and increasing community membership by common activities, while adjusting their desire and living habit constantly. This study shows that current group home can be a communal caring center for elderly who living alone in rural area. To promote the quality of rural group home, legalizing and systematizing group homes, providing housework and health related services, and developing diverse residential options are needed.
